Davin's Blanket Exercise
We would like to extend an invitation to the Davin community to attend a Blanket Exercise in our school gymnasium on November 23rd. The exercise will run from 6:00pm - 9:00pm, and will be facilitated by Sarah Longman, Supervisor of Aboriginal Education for Regina Public Schools. Our entire staff had the opporunity to participate in the Blanket Exercise at the beginning of the school year and we would encourage our Davin families to attend. It was an experience we will never forget, and so very important as we respond to the "Calls to Action" that have been outlined by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. For more information on the Blanket Exercise, see page 5&6 of the November 2016 Newsletter. Please note that child care will be available should you be unable to find your own!
The Track Meet scheduled for Grade 4 - 8 students at Davin for Friday June 3rd has been cancelled due to rain.
The alternataive date for track and field will be Friday June 10th. We appreciate the many parents who have volunteered for this event. We hope you are able to come out again on June 10th.
Staff and students will have a holiday from February 15 (Family Day) to February 19. School resumes on February 22 at 8:53 am.
Regina Public Schools, effective with the 2016-17 school year, will be changing its transportation procedures for Grade 1 students. You will have been contacted directly by letter if this change applies to your family. If you did not receive a letter, but think this applies to you, please contact your school principal.
Here are some of the details of the changes, for your information. Starting with the 2016-17 school year, only Grade 1 students who reside or whose caregivers reside more than 1,200 metres from their designated school will be eligible for transportation. This is a change from previous years where the distance from school requirement was 600 metres.
Transportation eligibility is based on Regina Public Schools Administrative Procedure and guidelines, as outlined below:
· Eligibility for Regular Program transportation includes the following:
a. Students must reside inside the transportation services area for the designated school,
b. Students must be enrolled and attending their designated school,
c. Kindergarten students who reside 0.6 km or farther from the designated elementary school are eligible for transportation,
d. Other elementary school students who reside 1.2 km or farther from the designated elementary school are eligible for transportation.
Please be aware, however, that students may be eligible for an exception for transportation based on the guidelines listed below.
a. Exceptions may be permitted on Regular Program school buses but not on Regular Program light vehicle transportation (cabs, vans),
b. Exceptions may be permitted for students attending their designated school only if,
i. The existing stop is more than 1,000 metres from the designated school,
ii. The student walks to an existing stop and there is room available on the school bus, and
iii. The student is in grade 1 to grade 5.
Exceptions will only be granted if doing so will not affect the safety, economy or efficiency of the transportation service.

A reminder to the Grade 2 students who were not able to have their molars
sealed last year due to being absent or not erupted, those consents are still valid
this year, but please call our office to update us if there are any changes in your

The dental team will be at Davin School Nov 2 & 3, 2015, to provide
the varnish applicaations and dental sealants.
Davin School staff will be holding its annual open house on Thursday September 17 from 4:30 to 5:30 pm. We encourage families to visit their child's classroom and see how the 2015-16 school year has started.
The Davin SCC (School Community Council) will be holding its Welcome Back BBQ that same day beginning at 5:00 and ending at 6:00 pm.
We look forward to families visiting classrooms, meeting staff and enjoying the BBQ at the end of the day!

Welcome Back to Davin School for the 2015-16 School Year!
We are excited to see all of our students and families on the first day of school which is Tuesday September 1st. School begins at 8:53 am. Staff will be outside at the first bell to meet their new students. Stduents will be able to check class lists which will be posted outside their playground entrance door to see which classroom they will be in and who their teacher is. Should the weather not cooperate and it it raining, we will meet inside the gym.
Kindergarten students only begin their school year with a staggererd start. This means some students will come to school on Tuesday September 1, some on September 2nd and some on September 3rd. Ms. Jackson has contacted families as to their specific start date.
If you are in the Davin area and have not yet registered your child, please come in and register with us on Monday August 31st.
School will continue during the week for students in Grades 1 - 8 on Wednesday September 2, Thursday September 3rd and Friday September 4th. Monday September 7th is Labour Day so there is no school for staff or students. School resumes as usual for all students on Tuesday Septembr 8th.

The Davin School Community Council (DSCC) has had to change the date of the family dance from Thursday April 23 to THURSDAY MAY 7.
Please join us from 6:30 to 8:30 in the Davin gym for the Family Dance. We look forward to seeing lots of families having fun, dancing and winning prizes.
There will be a canteen with cookies, chips and drinks available. The canteen is run by the Grade 8 class to raise funds for Grade 8 Farewell.
