Davin School Open House & SCC Welcome Back BBQ

Our Open House will be held on Thursday September 19th from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Come and visit your child's classroom and

speak with his/her teacher to find out about learning goals and expectations for the upcoming school year.

The Davin School Community Council (DSCC) will be hosting its Welcome Back BBQ from 5:00 to 6:00 pm. This will be held on the

Davin School playground. Prices include:

Meal (hotdog, bag of chips, drink)      $3.00

Hotdog only   $2.00

Drinks/Chips   $1 each

New School Times

Beginning this first week of September, school will begin at 8:53 am and will end at 3:37 pm. These times will be in effect for the entire school year.

Recess  (10:30 am and 2:15 pm) and lunch (11:45 - 12:45) times have not changed.

Davin SCC Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting of the Davin SCC will be held on Monday June 3 at 7:00 p.m. in the school library.

Staff Appreciation Week February 11 - 15

Staff Appreciation Week has begun in a wonderful way for Davin School staff. The School Community Council organized lunch for all staff on Monday February 11 and took over lunch room supervision in 4 of our lunch rooms. It was a rare opportunity for staff to eat together as staff members can be traveling between schools, attending scheduled meetings or professional development, supervising lunch rooms or supervising sports activities. The staff appreciated the kindness and generosity extended by the SCC. The gift of time was a wonderful way to start this week!

If you have a moment this week (or any week), please let staff members know how much you appreciate the time and effort they take with your children.

 

Family Literacy Week

To celebrate Family Literacy, students at Davin are asked to come to school on Monday January 28th dressed as their favorite author, book or character. All of our students will attend our WHO ARE WE? assembly dressed in this manner and will be able to bring their favorite book and spend time reading as a whole school. Our assembly begins at 11:00. Please join us if you are able. On Tuesday January 29, families can be introduced to Tumblebooks, an online collection of read-along books. The collection features picture books, early readers, chapter books, middle school readers, YA/teen novels, children's classics, and Shakespeare plays. Students are asked to introduce this to their family and then create a bookmark of a book they read that evening. Prizes will be awarded. On Wednesday January 30, students will be introduced to Willow books. Shining Willow are for K - 3 students with all books being read to these classes. Diamond Willow books are for Gr. 4 - 6. Snow Willow books are for Gr. 7 - 9. Students will then vote on their favourite book by Feb. 26th. A Book Exchange will be held on Thursday January 31. Students are asked to bring any used books to school so that they can exchange their book for another book.

 

During the week of January 28 to Feb. 1, the Davin Student Activity Council will be collecting items to donate to the Regina Humane Society. If you are able to donate cat/dog food, used towels, plastic cat toys, kongs, rawhide bones, etc., please bring your items to the school by Thursday January 31.

Opportunities for SCC Involvement

There are two opportunities for SCC involvement during the next two weeks. Regina Public School's will be hosting an SCC Forum on January 15 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Douglas Park School. The second will Regina Public's Annual Meeting on Tuesday January 29 at 7:00 pm at Arcola Community School. Everyone is welcome to attend both meetings.

3-Way Conferences

On Wednesday December 5th and Thursday December 6th we will be holding 3-Way Conferences. Students are asked to accompany their parents to their  conference to discuss progress during the past term. Conference times will be held on December 5th from 3:30 on. Conference times on December 6th will be held in the morning until 11:30 am. There will be no classes for students during the afternoon of December 6th. Please confirm your conference time with your child's classroom teacher. Conference times were sent home with your child's report card.

A Davin Kind of Christmas

Our Christmas concert, "A Davin Kind of Christmas" will be held on Monday December 17th. We will have 2 performances that day at 1:45 and 6:30 pm. Both performances will be held at the Performing Arts Centre located at 1077 Angus Street. We are using this facility as our school population has grown and our gym is too small to be able to hold all of our families. Tickets will not be used this year. Feel free to join us for either performance.

Kindergarten 2013-2014 Registrations

Davin School is now accepting registrations for children who will be attending Kindergarten in the fall.

Children must be toilet trained and be 5 years of age by December 2013.  Registration forms are available at  the Office.
